Koo's II

I sort of lay awake last night after the post, thinking about my comments of the Koo family. I still have the utmost respect for them, but I was thinking about Mr. Kwang-ming's role as the forever opposition. It's often a lot easier to be the opposition, because you can cling to your ideals without facing too much of the consequences and responsibilities that come with pushing through reforms. I certainly feel angry that Soong still wields so much influence, especially since it is so clear that he is very corrupt. I think that is the main reason for so much noise from the solid Green camp now, because they want to move forward from the old politics. But clearly, President Chen cannot continue to speed on without risking greater dangers. It's such a delicate situation. For fun, check out the following site, www.googlefight.com .

Koo's

I have a lot of respect for the Koo family of Taiwan, and it's not just because they are billionaires. Though I admit the way they came to wealth was slightly opportunistic, they have demonstrated themselves to be full fledged Taiwanese, particuarly Mr. Koo Kwang-ming. Read his recent interview with the Taipei Times..one of the reporters was a high school and college friend of mine! Haven't posted long entries recently. I've been a little too immersed in my work and courses. Quantum information science is just an amazing field. It's just fascinating. And the links to other disciplines, biology, computer science for example, could be or already are just as fascinating. But a lot of the work is still in the theory phase. We are definitely nowhere near a working quantum computer. As for fun stuff, I saw Constantine on Friday and really liked it. The basic story is a topic that has been sort of around for centuries, you know good vs evil, man's will and his choice, tho

The Gates

Check out this wonderful spoof of the Gates in Central Park by Christo and Jean-Claude. Unfortunately I won't be able to visit NY in time to see them. 29 years in planning! Wow. Certainly takes a bit of perseverance and will to see this through. Not to mention tons of money!

Nice stuff

In a follow up to my last post, here's some really creative stuff. Cute Sushi-Samurai ! Bunnies doing 30 second movie shorts ! And from fellow physics buff Evan's blog , Hubble pictures !

Battle Royale

I just watched Battle Royale again. Great movie. It's bloody and gory. It's just a crazy story. Wouldn't it be something if someone created a reality TV version of the movie? We'd watch f*cked up middle school/ high school kids kill each other off on a remote, isolated island. All the intricacies and dynamics of school would come out. One clique vs another. Friends turn to enemies. People you never really knew become your hope for survival. People you never talked to open up to you, or people you always talked to you wish they would go away. I bet the TV ratings would skyrocket! The entire nation would stop to watch this show. Actually, to be really honest, I think these reality TV shows are just crap. I choose not to watch any. Producers these days can't come up with creative, good enough stories so they resort to these so called reality situations and shoot them into TV episodes. Some of the real people are actually actors. How real is that? It seems that tub

New York, NY

Just got back from a weekend trip to NY. Love that place. More and more I wonder why I ever left? Perhaps only by leaving do I realize how much I miss and love NY. I am making it a goal of mine to return to the City someday. I can't imagine myself living anywhere else in the States. I think NY is one of those love or hate relationships, and everyone should live there for more than three years at least once. The same would go for any metropolitan city in the world, but somehow NY is more the Metropolis of the world than any other city, be it London, Paris, Tokyo... NY seems to be the only place in the US that is moving ahead, forging towards the future. Look at what the rest of the country is doing .
