Back!

Internet's back! Some more pics from the Smoky Mountain trip. These are not from my camera. But they fill a gap since I don't have pics from the camp site of the first night. New place is almost ready. Been cooking and settling down here a bit. But I realized I didn't bring everything, as when I tried to cook this stew today, I noticed I had forgotten to bring the pot lid. That was a bummer.

Road Trip: Pics IV

Last day of Smoky trip was spent roaming around Asheville. Asheville's a cute, hippy little town. Here's a pic, not particularly successful. Since it was also the 4rth of July, we stuck around for a bit to listen to a pretty cool live band, a doctor read excerpts from Revolutionary Hero speeches, ate chocolate from the best chocolate store in NC (I think), dinner at a Mexican place with really huge dishes, and finally, saw fireworks back in Chapel Hill. It was all in all, a really beautiful, wonderful day. Did you know that pee is used to create oxygen ? This may be the way that will lead to interstellar flight, as it's already in use on the space station. I was surprised to find out, but boy, is piss useful! I can certainly contribute plentifully.

Diet Coke and Mentos Experiment II

The second version. Here we aim to shoot the diet coke stream at a 45 degree angle as it's easier to measure the horizontal range than the vertical height. Knowing the range, one can easily calculate the velocity at which the coke is shot out. Turns out the coke has a range of about 4.5 ft. The experiment is not entirely good because there was limited control over number of mentos dropped (not all may have entered) into the coke, and thus, we don't know if the output was at a maximum possible velocity. Notice also how some of the mentos are shot out with the stream.

Road Trip: Pics III

Road trip pics day 3. We go whitewater rafting in the afternoon. I don't have those pics, though we did get a water-proof camera. In the morning, we drive around Smoky Mountains! At night, we stayed at a friend's cabin in the mountains!

Annie's Song

Here's a real favourite song of mine, especially when sung by John Denver. It's called "Annie's Song." ***** You fill up my senses like a night in the forest, like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain, like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean. You fill up my senses, come fill me again. Come let me love you, let me give my life to you, let me drown in your laughter, let me die in your arms, let me lay down beside you, let me always be with you. Come let me love you, come love me again. You fill up my senses like a night in the forest, like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain, like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean. You fill up my senses, come fill me again. *****

Road Trip: Pics II

Continuing with the Smoky Mountain trip pics, here's stuff from the second day.

Sandra's Wedding!

Interlude from the Road Trip posts, since I haven't gotten any other pics yet. I was in California this past weekend attending Sandra's wedding. Third from our high school class to get married! Wow. Saturday having brunch at Starbucks. First kiss as man and wife. Sandra's parents look on. NEHS guys after the ceremony. Trying to get a vid of the couple swing dancing...but Joy keeps getting in the way!

Road Trip: Pics

Day 1. Drive to Elkmont camp site at Smoky Mountains. Unfortunately I don't have all pics since others haven't forwarded them to me, so I'm putting up what I have. Here are pics of the scenery (a creek and woods) at our camp site.
